About us
This page introduces Team Try@ngulars, a student-led project affiliated with the Faculty of Information Science at Osaka Institute of Technology, as part of the RoboCup Project. The team was established to participate in the Simulation Open Platform League (Simulation OPL), a sub-league within RoboCup’s @Home League, which utilizes SigVerse, a virtual robotics environment. Try@ngulars has received multiple awards in events such as the Open Challenge.
Although the team belongs to the Faculty of Information Science, the Simulation OPL emphasizes human-robot interaction in virtual reality (VR) environments. Therefore, the team also engages in research exploring how to enhance everyday interactions between humans and robots. Their research outcomes have been actively presented at workshops and academic conferences.
Team history
Try@ngulars is a robotics competition team formed through collaboration among multiple Japanese universities. In 2018, four universities—Ritsumeikan University, Okayama Prefectural University, Tamagawa University, and Osaka Institute of Technology—jointly established the team “er@asers” and participated in the World Robot Summit 2018 @Home Simulation League. The team achieved third place and received the WRS Executive Committee Chairman’s Award.
Subsequently, in 2019, Ritsumeikan University, Okayama Prefectural University, and Osaka Institute of Technology reformed the team as “MindGr@spers” to compete in the RoboCup Japan Open @Home League Simulation Open Platform League (S-OPL), securing second place.
From 2020 onward, the team adopted the name “Try@ngulars,” symbolizing both new challenges (“try”) and the collaboration of the three universities (“triangle”). That year, the team earned second place in the tournament and was also honored with the Fighting Spirit Award in the Technical Challenge.
Since 2021, activities have been led primarily by the Faculty of Information Science at Osaka Institute of Technology, with a focus on three core principles: technology, teamwork, and challenge. In 2021, the team finished as runner-up in the RoboCup Asia-Pacific @Home Simulation Open Platform League, and has maintained consistent performance in both domestic and international competitions since then.
In 2023 and 2024, Try@ngulars placed fourth in the competition division and first in the Open Challenge at the RoboCup Japan Open @Home League S-OPL. Additionally, in 2024, the team achieved third place at the WRS Future Convenience Challenge held during ICRA 2024. Looking ahead to 2025, the team remains committed to pursuing top rankings while continuously enhancing technical expertise and strengthening team cohesion.
Try@ngulars is dedicated to advancing cutting-edge robotics research and development through inter-university collaboration, aiming to realize robots that contribute meaningfully to society through competitive engagement. The team will continue to embrace new challenges, fostering the growth of robotics competitions and promoting the dissemination of innovative technologies.
